Purpose

Businesses license software to outline the legal rights they are providing to authorized users of the software. These licenses can include important restrictions on how the software can be used and may also explicitly restrict its resale.

Software licenses can address important terms such as:
1. What actions would constitute a breach of copyright;
2. The temporal length of the license;
3. What purposes the software may use used for; and
4. The effects on the ownership of data that is combined with or added to the software.
